I have been a keen photographer for over 30 years and since moving to live in Cumbria in 2008 I have been actively capturing the wonderful detail and landscapes of the Lake District, as well as travelling further afield. My mother and her family were from Cumbria and I have been visiting the area almost annually since I was born, particularly for fell-walking. This has led to an intimate knowledge of this area of outstanding beauty and its ever-changing and ever-challenging environment.
I hold photographic distinctions of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS), the Fedération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (EFIAP) and the Photographic Society of America (EPSA). Many of my images have gained medals and commendation ribbons from international salon competitions run under the auspices of these organisations. I am currently Chairman of the Keswick Photographic Society, where I have been a member for the past seven years. I am a competition judge for the 50-odd camera clubs of the Northern Counties Photographic Federation, an area section affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.
I give photographic presentations at clubs and elsewhere. My most recent shows have been Images of Iceland
, mainly landscape photography; Pole to Pole
landscape and wildlife photography of the arctic and antarctic; A Galapagos Adventure
, mainly wildlife photography; and Have Canon Will Shoot
which covers the broad range of my photography. Following some recent trips I have added a new wildlife show - Out Of Africa
and a landscape/wildlife show - Winter Wonderland In Yellowstone National Park

My professional background was in basic medical research and, after gaining biochemistry degrees (BSc; PhD) from Manchester University, I spent all my professional life as a university lecturer and research scientist. For the last 15 years of my career I was the Director of Scientific and Academic Administration at the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, whilst leading a small research team for much of that time.
